The SBU35 – or St Begas Ultra – runs, despite the name, approximately 36miles from he heart of the Lake District to the West Coast. Mostly off-road the SBU35 follows the St Begas’ Way following the route of the legendary Irish princess, St Bega, between two chapels that both bear her name.
Organisers insist that despite this being a fairly tough run that it’s ideally suited to those new to longer distances. ‘Everything about this event’, they comment, ‘has been carefully considered to support new entrants, from the choice of route and terrain, the stunning and detailed roadbook, the first class medical support, checkpoints in permanent buildings, the warmest finish line welcome you’re likely to experience and masses of super, friendly and supportive marshals.’
Stunningly beautiful and with a generous 12hour cut-off the SBU35 looks like an absolute most for both seasoned pros and newcomers alike. Entry fees are £67 for unaffiliated runners and £65 for affiliated – full details at ukantrail.co.uk
