Running the Rift
Running the Rift – November 3-7, 2016
Running the Rift is a five-day African odyssey that offers 10k, half-marathon and marathon options. Heading from Fort Portal the courses, predominantly hard packed dirt trails, lead runners through villages and trading centres with the terrain opening up and the Rwenzori Mountains as backdrop.
You can expect hot (but, apparently not‘unbearably hot’) conditions and the course is described as hilly. Add to that the fact that the race takes place above 1500m and Running the Rift starts looking like a properly epic challenge. That said, organisers, are rightly keen to point out that these are races open to runners of all stripe willing to pace themselves and just soak up the incredible atmosphere.
Running the Rift is 100% not-for-profit and is staged in support of the Kyaninga Childcare Development Centre. Prices start at £350 and vary depending on accommodation options ranging from luxury lodge to ‘fancy’ camping.
Price includes: race entry, four night’s accommodation, all meals, race t-shirt, medal, water (no food) during the race, transport and facilities. Flights, visas and transfers are not included; expect to pay £400-500 for return flights from the UK.
