The QE2QE100 takes a bit of unravelling when it comes to the name; this excellent looking 100miler covers the distance from Windsor (home of Queen Elizabeth) to the Queen Elizabeth Country Park in the South Downs National Park. A slightly tortuous way of getting to name a race, but judging my the profile it could well be worth it.
The self-navigating event follows five publicly marked routes: the Thames Path, the Wey Navigation Path, the Downslink from Guildford to Steyning (a disused railway line), the Monarch’s Way and finally the South Downs Way. The are ten CPs on the QE2Q2100 offering a variety of hot or cold drinks, plus sweets. There are also cut-offs to consider at each CP and an overall limit of 30hours. They’re all ‘manageable’ for the reasonably fit ultra-runner and there are provisions for crewing too, which can make things more comfortable.
The QE2Q2100 is pretty reasonably priced at £69 for those with their own crew and £89 for those looking for support from the race organisers. Full details and online entry at irunevents.uk
