Marafun – May 7, 2016
Putting the fun into the marathon (see what they did with the name?) the Marafun takes place in Orpington, Great London, with a range of distances on offer to appeal to all abilities. Obviously there’s the full 26.2mile option but also half-marathon run or walk, 10k run and 4k and 2k run/walk events.
With a good reputation for fun (naturally) and friendliness this could prove an excellent opportunity for those new to the longer distances looking for excellent support. The route – two laps for the full marathon – is an undulating course on the pavements of the residential streets and countryside of Orpington, Chislehurst and Petts Wood. It promises to be well marshalled and signed, but note this is not an officially measured or verified marathon distance.
Since the first Marafun in 2005, runners and walkers have raised over £75,000 for good causes and this year’s event supports Footsteps International, which raises funds for street children and orphans in Kenya.
There is no entry fee for the Marafun, instead organisers ask for voluntary donations on registration at a suggest – and very reasonable – £20 for the marathon and half-marathon. Full details at marafun.co.uk
