Tribesports Performance Thermal Baselayer
It’s that time of year when RunningMonkey resigns to having to layer up for the run, so the fact that the Tribesports Performance Thermal Baselayer recently arrived at RM HQ was perfectly timed.
A relatively new kid on the block, Tribesports has impressed us so far with their range of performance apparel, much of it designed via feedback from their customers (or ‘Tribe’), so hopes were high when it came to putting the baselayer to the test.
Aesthetically minimalist – Tribesports go for a neat yellow slash logo rather than heavy-handed branding embellishments – the Performance Thermal Baselayer is available in both charcoal grey and white, the latter with an additional yellow flash to the lower sleeve.
The fit is snug, as you would expect from a decent base, with the 10% spandex mix making for a top that moves well with the motion of the run and doesn’t ride up thanks to the silicon grippers on the hem. The inner lining is soft against the skin – a brushed finish that provides both comfort and additional warmth by helping to trap warm air – and all seams are flatlocked. The ‘thermo yarn’ did an excellent job of keeping the chill out across multiple runs (with an average temperature of 3degrees), but also of regulating once the body temperature rose with sweat efficiently wicked away.
Raglan cut sleeves, something RunningMonkey always likes to see in apparel, add to the comfort and the slightly longer body length (plus those silicon grips) kept midriff well covered. In all, the Tribesports Performance Thermal Baselayer delivered perfectly – just at we had hoped. It looks good and regulates winter running temperatures brilliantly, what more could you ask of a thermal baselayer?
The Tribesports Performance Thermal Baselayer, currently only available in men’s, retails at a mere £32 exceptional value when you consider the quality of both design and function. Sizes S to XXL with further details and online purchase at Tribesports.com
