Knacker Cracker 10k

Knacker Cracker 10kKnacker Cracker 10k – January 1, 2015

There are plenty of great New Year’s Day races out there to shake off the hangovers and start the resolutions from day one and the Knacker Cracker is something of an institution. It might only be 10k but the Knacker Cracker (AKA the Knicker Knacker if you’re a woman) has a fierce reputation given that it’s organised by Trionium and takes in some impressive off-road climbs.

The race involves a gruelling slog around the Box Hill area of Surrey with superb views over the North Downs, the Mole Gap, Denbies Vineyard, and Dorking and a lung-busting 475m of ascent and descent. The event has been voted Britain’s Best 10k three years in a row by Runner’s World and there’s good reason for that.

At £33.00 affiliated (£35 unaffiliated) it’s not the cheapest 10k on offer and another price hike from last year, but as a hangover cure and a ‘start as you mean to go on’ new-year’s race the Knacker Cracker is unbeatable.
