As a new event the HEROES Challenge offers both stunning scenery and a bargain £25 marathon price.
Starting and finishing at Bagwell Farm Touring Park, Chickerell, Dorset the course heads out along The Fleet, follows coastal national trails and bridal paths to Abbotsbury, passing the Swannery, Monastery and St Catharine’s chapel. The second leg involves a tough climb out toward the mid-point refreshment stop at Hardy’s Monument, the highest point on the course. Those choosing the half-marathon option will finish here with minibus transport back to the start. Runners taking on the full 26.2miles will continue back along the high ridges and hills, before dropping back down to Bagwell Farm.
The route has some tough climbs and is almost constantly undulating – there’s little PB potential here and although the route is signposted and fully marshalled, a degree of self-navigation. A generous 8hour cut-off for the finish shouldn’t put you off.
The £25 entry feel also includes bag storage, use of showers, car park and a packed lunch. Full details and entry for the HEROES Challenge at hangersheroes.co.uk
