Run the Rann
The inaugural Run the Rann is being advertised as ‘India’s Most Spectacular Footrace’ and who are we to disagree. Taking part in February the event offers runners three distances of 21km (half-marathon), 42km (marathon) and ultra at 101km – a gruelling trail run through vast salt marshes and unforgiving cacti in the Great Rann of Kutch, a sprawling 2897-square-mile salt marsh located in the Thar Desert of Northern India. The area is home to both ancient civilisations and a vast array of stunning wildlife; Run the Rann offers participants the opportunity to both explore and run across one of the last ‘un-run’ wildernesses on earth, with India potentially set to be the next ‘ultra-running destination.’
Entry fees which also covers local transfers, camping, meals, numerous entertainments, etc. are $150 for the 21km, $200 for the 42km and $300 for the ultra. Details of the full three-day Run the Rann schedule, including equipment workshops and guided local exploration, along with online entry, can be found at runtherann.com – What else do you need to know? Well, RunningMonkey will be there so we’ll keep you posted with news, race reports and interviews with the event organisers. Want to join us?
