1000mile Compression Socks
Compression socks at a budget price can result in a get-what-you-pay-for sense of disappointment; buy cheap, buy twice. But the 1000mile Compression Socks are a refreshing change from that rule, suitable for both race/training and post-exercise recovery, they stand up well to repeated wear (and washing) without loss of elasticity or performance.
The graduated compression (a must-have on the checklist when picking out compression wear) helps improve the circulation, reduce toxin build up and ‘flushes’ lactic acid – though you can debate amongst yourselves if there’s any real benefit in the latter. Crucially – as these are more than comfortable enough to wear on the run – the 1000mile Compression Socks help minimise muscle oscillation, which occurs with each foot strike, helping to reduce fatigue and, arguably, improving performance over distance. The arch and ankle are well braced for additional support and comfort and the padded heel zone and impressively flat seams all add to overall comfort.
Post-exercise these work well for recovery – a clean pair’s recommended – used as part of the Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation (RICE) regime the squeeze will help to oxygenate the muscles and speed recovery.
Unfortunately these otherwise excellent compression socks do lack an antibacterial treatment, which can result not only in post-race stink, but a build up of bacteria over time which reduce their lifespan. But then at £14.99, you can easily afford to add a couple of pairs to the running kit bag.
